The Preschool Program provides a comprehensive special education experience to children between the ages of 3 and 5 who have developmental delays in one or more of the following areas: cognition, language, fine/gross motor development, and social/self-help skills.

The program focuses on the individual development of each child through special education, occupational, physical and speech therapy, as well as vision and hearing services. Theme-based activities, opportunities for constructive play and interaction with other children are also emphasized. Team meetings with parents are held annually, or as needed. Progress reports are given every 6 months.

Children attend half day sessions in our Swarthmore facility from 1 to 4 days per week, 12 months per year. A limited number of full day slots are available for those students that qualify.

Classes range in size from 8 to 12 students. Each class is staffed by a PA certified special educational teacher and at least 2 teacher assistants.

The Preschool Program has very low staff turnover. Our teachers, therapists and teacher assistants have been with us an average of 6 years.

Transportation is arranged through the local school district.

Children are referred through the Delaware County Intermediate Unit or Elwyn Preschool Services (for children residing in the Chester Upland School District).
